Fine incised three-gallon stoneware jar made by David Roberts, Utica, New York, circa 1827-1828. Ht. 14". The incised bird decoration is probably a ringneck mourning dove. The jar is marked on the side, under the handle, by the maker "D. Roberts & Co Utica". Ex collection Adolph Meyer. Sold Sotheby's January 20, 1996, lot 135. Purchased from the Meyers' sale buyer. Condition: Star crack and rim chips. Also "fry" on the backside.
