An outstanding collection of ten watercolor drawings of exotic animals by the English artist William Goodall (1757-1844) done about 1820-30. Each watercolor identifies the animal as to species and location and, sometimes, the source. All have fully rendered colored backgrounds showing their natural habitat. Most portray the animals in a sympathetic and even humorous manner. Frame size 14 3/8" x 9 5/8". All have museum glass. Note: William married well and lived a leisurely life. Painting became his lifelong hobby. At an early age he studied both natural history and the fine arts. He did many works of animals, birds, and plants in brilliant watercolor, labeling each with the correct Linnaean classification in Latin.
PRICE: $9,500 (set of ten).
