A delightful pair of silhouettes by Master Hubbard (1807-1862), circa 1830. Hubbard was a British-born artist who worked in England and in the United States, who specialized in silhouettes and painted portraits. These silhouettes are typical of his work. Both pictures bear an impressed inscription on the backs, "cut with common scissors by Master Hubbard without use of machine". What makes these silhouettes particularly attractive are the pair of original ogee mahogany veneer frames with gilt liners. The sitters are identified on the back in script. Very good condition. Each framed picture measures 10 1/8" x 9 5/8".
