Fine pair of Japanese "Arita" jars, late 17th century, with a 3-panel floral design derived from the Chinese "kraak" porcelain style. Both have late 19th century carved Chinese covers. Ht. 10 1/2" (without covers). Condition: Both drilled for lamps, otherwise excellent. Note: Similar jars are illustrated in Ayers, Porcelain for Palaces, 1650-1750, fig. 54, p. 106 (1990).
